Sripalli Boys’ Hostel, also known as Nandan Boys’ Hostel after the famous artist Nandalal Bose, is one of the well-known hostels of Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan. It accommodates students not only from Siksha Bhavana and Kala Bhavana but also from other Bhavanas and departments across the university. The hostel is located close to both Siksha Bhavana and Kala Bhavana, making it very convenient for students. The Aroshree Market is only a few minutes’ walk away. Traditionally the front Block A is allotted for Siksha Bhavana students, while Block B is for Kala Bhavana students, but this division is not a strict rule anymore it continues more as a convention than a regulation.
The hostel building is quite old but still functional. Each room has two tube lights and a ceiling fan. Basic facilities such as water supply, electricity, and a kitchen are available. Each block has water purifier, which used to be maintained by the students. There is also a gym area. The food quality in the hostel mess is similar to that of other hostels, but since it is managed by the students, it remains more cost-effective and flexible. Despite being simple, it suits the everyday lifestyle of students who prefer affordable living.
Each room is designed for two students and comes with a bed, table, and chair. Most of the furniture is old but still usable and maintained periodically. The rooms have balconies in front, four windows, and built-in shelves. The hostel offers a peaceful and cooperative living environment.

I was alloted Room 19 in Block A. The hostel became my favorite as it is located near my department. I also had a senior roommate, and we shared the room comfortably. The facilities are simple, the food in the mess is acceptable and affordable, and overall, it’s a nice environment to live and study in.
The corridors feature sculptures by kalabhavana studen. These sculptures often attract the attention of tourist and passersby on the road; we could hear people commenting on them as they walked by.
Once during power cuts, the kitchen glows with candlelight, turning ordinary evenings into quiet, memorable moments shared among friends.
Overall, Sripalli Boys’ Hostel is more than just a place to stay. It carries a sense of heritage, student community, and everyday life in Santiniketan. It remains a memorable and beloved part of the Visva-Bharati experience.
